Mistakes in TEF Canada writing
Errors in the written part. I already raised this topic once (look for the article “with a statuette” on the cover), now I want to discuss with you specifically TEF. ⠀
Let me remind you that the written part of this exam has 2 sections: ⠀
1️⃣Article about the incident: ⠀
Error 1. The test taker forgets that he is not just writing an article, but is trying to pass the exam. ⠀
It is important not only the content, but also the mastery of grammatical structures and tenses. At the same time, there is no need to go to the other extreme - oversaturate the text with complex phrases to the detriment of the semantic part. ⠀ If at the preparation stage you understand well the structure of the article, which in itself requires a certain grammar, most likely you will not have problems with this. ⠀
Error 2. The length of the article is only 80 words.
Short and dynamic text. At the same time, some manage to make holes in the presentation of events, sudden jumps in time, which greatly complicates reading. The narration should be smooth and consistent. ⠀
2️⃣Argued letter on a burning topic ⠀
Error 1. Universal introductions and conclusions. ⠀
Their advantage is that you don’t waste time - you start with memorized phrases and quickly move on to the substantive part. But there is a nuance. Even universal forms are not suitable for all texts - be careful and keep options in your arsenal. And make sure that there is no “style gap” when you have memorized a grammatically complex, abstruse introduction, but the main text is simpler and more colloquial. This is immediately noticeable. ⠀
Error 2. When preparing, many take ready-made articles from the Internet on various topics. ⠀
It’s good when you write down new words, constructions - you replenish your vocabulary for argumentation. It's bad when you start learning entire articles. This greatly limits your options if you come across, say, a similar topic. Here you could successfully use individual words, but you have a whole piece in your head that does not fit in this form. And finally, I know many of the copy-pastes practically by heart, and the reviewers probably do too.
