EXPRESS ENTRY AFTER ITA

Received an ITA? What to check and prepare in the 60 days before submission

An Invitation to Apply (ITA) is not an endorsement of permanent residence.

You now have 60 calendar days to submit a full application for permanent residence through Express Entry or decline the invitation.

The main task of this stage is not just to upload documents, but to confirm the information on the basis of which you received an invitation, fill out additional information and make sure that after the changes your situation still meets the requirements.

What changes after ITA

01

The profile turns into a full-fledged statement

Before the invitation, there was enough information in the profile for IRCC to:

  • determine whether you can get into the pool;
  • calculate CRS;
  • understand whether you are participating in a particular round.

After the ITA, this is no longer enough.

Now you need:

02

Confirm program

Check which program you were invited to and whether you continue to fulfill its requirements.

03

Check CRS

Ensure that the information on which your result was calculated remains correct.

04

Fill out a detailed application

After the ITA, additional questions arise about family, addresses, travel, activities and other circumstances.

05

Upload documents

After filling out the online form, the system creates a personal list of documents specifically for your application.

06

Pass a medical examination

For Express Entry, a medical examination must be completed after the ITA but before submitting the application.

ITA gives the right to submit an application, but does not guarantee its approval.

What to do in the first days

Don't start with random file downloads.

First, fix the scope of the case.

  1. 01

    Check the deadline

    Write down the exact date and time when your 60 calendar days expire.

  2. 02

    See what program the invitation came from

    If the profile fits several federal programs at once, IRCC invites you according to the established procedure. You cannot independently select another program after ITA.

  3. 03

    Save your profile details and invitations

    They will be needed for comparison with the application.

  4. 04

    Check if the situation has changed

    Work, marital status, provincial nomination, status, language results and other circumstances may affect the application.

  5. 05

    Make a list of documents that take a long time to receive

    Especially police certificates, employer documents, translations and documents from other countries.

  6. 06

    Schedule a physical exam

    For Express Entry, this is a pre-filing immigration physical: this is done after the ITA and before filing.

Before filling out the application, check the source data again

01

Do not automatically transfer your profile to the electronic application for permanent residence

Compare the information the invitation gave you with what actually exists on the date of submission.

Check:

02

Language results

Are they valid and have they not changed after the retake?

03

Provincial nomination

If the invitation was associated with a nomination, it must remain valid.

04

Jobs and job offers

If work circumstances have changed, check to see if the program or CRS is affected.

05

Education and diploma assessment

Do the diplomas and ECA report match what was stated in the profile.

06

Family situation

Marriage, divorce, the birth of a child and other changes cannot simply be left “as they were.”

07

Work experience

Dates, NOCs, hours and documents must support the details you declare.

If the situation has changed since the invitation

Sometimes you need to recalculate the CRS before filing

IRCC specifically recommends recalculating the CRS if your situation or that of your spouse or partner has changed since the ITA.

If the new score is below your round's minimum passing score, IRCC recommends that you decline the invitation.

If you apply anyway, IRCC may deny your application and fees may not be refunded.

Examples of changes that IRCC separately cites:

  • there is no longer a valid job offer if it influenced the invitation;
  • no more provincial nomination;
  • the language test has expired;
  • after the retake, the language result became lower;
  • work status has changed and this has affected the CRS.

Important: Not every change automatically requires an ITA waiver. The first step is to understand whether it changes program requirements, CRS, or other important terms of your invitation.

How to get a job for 60 days

Don't leave complex documents until the end.

  1. 01

    Days 1–7

    • check the program and CRS;
    • create a complete chronology;
    • request police certificates that may take a long time to obtain;
    • request documents from employers;
    • sign up for a medical examination;
    • determine which documents require translation.
  2. 02

    Days 8–25

    • fill out an online application;
    • collect evidence of work, education and family circumstances;
    • check the history of addresses, travel, activities and work;
    • obtain translations;
    • check documents against your profile.
  3. 03

    Days 26–45

    • close missing documents;
    • prepare explanations where they are really needed;
    • check for discrepancies;
    • upload documents according to your personal list of documents.
  4. 04

    Days 46–60

    • carry out final reconciliation;
    • check required fields and downloads;
    • pay the required fees;
    • sign and send the application.

    This is not the official IRCC schedule and does not mean you have to wait until the last days. The sooner the application is actually ready, the lower the risk of running into a technical or documentary problem near the deadline.

What appears on the application after the ITA

There is noticeably more information

After an invitation, you don't just need to repeat your profile information.

The application contains or expands information about:

  • family;
  • children;
  • residential addresses;
  • work;
  • study;
  • periods without work;
  • travel;
  • immigration history;
  • some biographical information.

A separate difficulty is that different types of history do not exist in isolation.

For example, the period of work is associated simultaneously with:

  • work history;
  • with activity history;
  • with address history;
  • with employer documents;
  • sometimes with travel history.

Therefore, it is important not to complete each section as a separate form.

For detailed work with chronology, use a separate page: history of travel, addresses, work and activities after ITA.

Personal list of documents

First fill out the form - then the system will show you what to download

IRCC generates a personal list of documents after filling out the online application.

Most applicants may need:

Items checked0 of 9

Your selections remain only on this page and are not sent anywhere.

Don't use someone else's list of documents as the final list for your case.

Certificates of good conduct

01

This is one of the documents that it is better to think about in advance.

For Express Entry, rules vary by country.

02

Country where you currently live

The certificate must be issued no more than 6 months prior to submission and must not be expired.

03

Other countries

Typically the certificate must be issued after the last period you lived there for 6 consecutive months or longer.

If the certificate cannot be received by the deadline, IRCC allows you to upload:

  • letter of explanation;
  • evidence that you attempted to obtain the document in a timely manner.

For example, a receipt, order confirmation, tracking number or explanation of the authority that issues the certificate.

But this does not mean automatic release from the document. The officer decides whether your attempts were sufficient.

Medical examination

For Express Entry, it is passed before application

After the ITA, you must undergo an immigration medical examination from a doctor on the official IRCC list.

For Express Entry, this is called a pre-application immigration physical:

  • first you get an ITA;
  • then undergo a medical examination;
  • after that you submit your application.

The Immigration Medical Examination must be carried out by a doctor on the official IRCC list and not by a regular family doctor.

Proof of funds

Don't copy an old amount from someone else's article

The required funds confirmation amount depends on:

  • programs;
  • family size;
  • current IRCC table.

IRCC updates the amounts periodically.

Not all Express Entry applicants are required to provide proof of funds.

Therefore, on this page we deliberately do not record a specific amount.

Before serving:

  1. check whether confirmation of funds is required for you;
  2. open the current IRCC table;
  3. calculate family size according to IRCC rules;
  4. make sure that the money is actually available;
  5. prepare the document in the required format.

If the document fails

Don't upload an empty or random file just for the sake of a field

For some documents, IRCC provides a specific procedure if it is objectively difficult to obtain them on time.

A police certificate is a good example: you can submit a letter of explanation and evidence that you tried to obtain the document in time.

But this approach cannot automatically be transferred to any missing document.

If a required document is missing and there is no suitable basis or explanation for it, the application may be considered incomplete.

Therefore, each missing document must be analyzed separately.

Final verification before shipping

Check not the files one by one, but the connections between them.

01

Profile ↔ statement

The information on which the ITA was based should not unexpectedly conflict with the electronic application for permanent residence.

02

Work ↔ NOC ↔ employer letter

Dates, responsibilities, hours and positions should all add up to one story.

03

Work history ↔ activity history

Periods should not create unexplained gaps or contradictions.

04

Address history ↔ travel history

Places of residence and travel should logically coexist.

05

Family ↔ documents

Marital status and family members must be confirmed by relevant documents.

06

Language ↔ CRS

Correct and valid results are used.

07

Education ↔ ECA

The information in the application matches diplomas and educational assessments.

08

Means ↔ family size

If confirmation of funds is required, the amount is calculated according to current requirements.

Submitting an application

The system will not allow you to send an application without the required fields and downloads

Before submitting, IRCC requires:

  • fill in the required fields;
  • upload the required documents;
  • pay the application processing fee;
  • pay the biometrics fee, if applicable.

The Permanent Residence Fee can be paid up front to avoid creating an extra step later.

After submission, another stage begins - consideration of the IRCC application.

What happens if you refuse ITA

It's not the same as just waiting until the end of 60 days.

If you decline the invitation, the profile will be returned to the pool if it is still eligible.

You may be invited back in future rounds, but there is no guarantee of a new ITA.

If you do nothing and just skip the 60-day period:

  • The ITA will expire;
  • the profile will be removed from the pool;
  • future participation will require you to create a new profile and re-enter the pool.

Therefore, if you understand that you cannot or should not apply under the current ITA, do not leave the invitation without a decision.

Common mistakes after ITA

01

Consider the ITA almost an approval

After submission, IRCC also reviews the program, CRS, documents and circumstances that may affect the decision on the application.

02

Start with just collecting files

First you need to check the program, CRS and changes after the invitation.

03

Copy profile without re-verification

During your time in the pool, circumstances could change.

04

Leaving police certificates until the last week

Some documents take a long time to receive.

05

Fill out stories separately from each other

Histories of work, activities, addresses and trips are interconnected.

06

Use someone else's list of documents

The IRCC list is generated personally after completing your application.

07

Wait until the last day

A technical error or a missing document on the last day leaves little time for correction.

08

Keep silent about changed circumstances

After an ITA, it is important to work with the current situation, and not just what was in the profile a few months ago.

When is professional review especially helpful after an ITA?

  • CRS changed after invitation;
  • marital status changed;
  • the language result has expired or changed;
  • there was a provincial nomination;
  • complex history of work, activities, travel and addresses;
  • several NOCs;
  • self-employment;
  • discrepancies with previous immigration application;
  • a police certificate is difficult to obtain;
  • some documents do not follow the usual format;
  • you filled out the application yourself and you want to check the kit before sending it.
