How to move to Canada: our story – Part 4

B last time I never told you about the reasons for my fiasco in the exams.
Right from the start, I decided to use English as my first language for the tests. I hoped it would earn me most of my language points in the system where immigration candidates register.
Although I objectively knew French better, it was as if I didn’t allow myself to look in this direction - after all, 90% of people start with English as their first language. And doing “like everyone else” seems to be safer. Even the consultant recommended English as the default. It can be taken at least every day, but French in St. Petersburg is taken once every six months.
I looked at the schedule - the nearest date is in 2 months, just what I need. Now I’ll quickly pass the additional language, and then I’ll prepare for the main one.
Once you set a goal, you will go towards it...
I didn't take my preparation seriously. I thought I would surely score enough points for my second language. In the end, I fell short in listening and reading, the sections I had prepared for half-heartedly.
But it didn't upset me. I started preparing for English, confident that I would have the necessary points in my pocket. And here I made my second mistake.
I somehow got better with reading right away. And I decided not to waste time on it and switch to the rest. And what do you think I ended up cutting short on?
Never, please, prepare for the exam “in parts.” Practice all your skills in parallel until you win!
And now in mid-August I have 2 certificates in my hands with results that I never expected. Self-esteem is gathering dust somewhere at the feet, and inside there is a huge hole gaping, shaped like an ass...
Now I soberly assess that all this was not in vain. And these two failures ultimately led me to a correct understanding of my goals and interests.
But at that moment I was completely crushed. And the worst thing was that I absolutely did not understand what to do next. Rent everything over again? Something told me that the approach that had not justified itself needed to be changed, but how?
And I did something that was not typical for me. I sent, as they say, the question “to the Universe” and relaxed in the hope that if there was still a chance, I would receive some kind of sign.
You will laugh, but that’s how it happened... But more on that in next part.
