Is French required to immigrate to Canada?
I recently described in detail the process of our family’s immigration to Canada. This is where the story begins. But I feel that many do not understand why at the moment the French language is not a luxury, but a must-have in the immigration process.
Let me tell you more.
A year ago, the passing rate in the Canadian immigration system skyrocketed and remains at a very high level.
- Let's say you've already passed English, but you still don't have enough points. In this case, French at level B2 will give you points not only for the level itself in reading, listening, speaking and writing, but plus another 15 or 30 points for the fact that you speak it at all. Cool? I think so.
- Some provinces have their own streams for Francophones, for example Ontario. The language requirements there are slightly lower than in the general federal program, and you have a real chance to earn an additional 600 points as support from the province. Isn't this luck? What else!
- If you have not yet decided which of the two languages to start learning from scratch, but have immigration plans, then take a closer look at French. All other things being equal, for level C1 it gives you 15 points more than English. And that's really a lot. In this case, every point counts.
Apparently Canada loves francophones and especially bilinguals. It would be sad to miss this opportunity.
