TCF Canada score reviews: an update
Several of my students requested — and are still requesting — reviews of their speaking and writing results this fall after falling just one point short. That has given me plenty of hands-on experience with the process, and I have a few things to say about it.
Firstly, it turns out that some test centers have no idea that you have a right to appeal, which you have within a month of receiving your results. There are still cases when centers are too lazy to bother with paperwork, and they simply say that an appeal is impossible. Stand your ground.
Secondly, the centers do not know how to file an appeal, what form to fill out, they give incorrect instructions, they ask you to write some kind of ad-lib, reasoned letters on the topic “why I think I am worthy of an appeal,” thereby greatly delaying the process. All you need to do is fill out the form and send it to the center, which will send it where you need it.
As for payment, different centers offer different options - some ask to pay in advance and refund the payment if the score is raised, others ask to pay after the fact. Negotiate with your center.
Today, I would say that TCF students are more willing to raise the score in writing than in speaking, but, as they say, qui vivra verra, while I am collecting statistics. Everything can change at any moment.
