How to stick with French when you have had enough

I often say that people learning a language for immigration are the most motivated students. A clear goal makes all the difference. But even the most committed student runs out of steam sometimes, starts questioning the decision and feels like saying ‘to hell with it all’ — including the plan to earn extra points through French. ⠀
What to do if you have retrained and are overtaken by a sad state? How not to throw everything to hell? ⠀
This is how I see it: ⠀
- Try to understand what your stumbling block is and find an alternative to it. Often it's just one aspect. For example, you really don’t like writing exam texts or your ears are already withering from the news on the radio. There is a replacement for any unloved activity - it’s not a fact that it’s permanent, but it’s definitely temporary. My students know this. ⠀
- Learn to cheer yourself up. Whatever minimum time you need to prepare for the test, remember that this does not mean that all this time you have to study grammar and read exclusively scientific articles. 👉Even during a strict diet there are cheat meals. Stress is a terrible demotivator. Forget about everything and spend the day hugging YouTube, comedies or comics. There will be more sense, I guarantee. ⠀
- Well, the last piece of advice for today. I never tire of repeating that your goal, of course, will support you in difficult times, but if in addition you have an army of friends “by misfortune” and not an ideal, but “your” teacher, then you are doomed to achieve what you want sooner or later. It is much more difficult to overcome obstacles alone.
In short, don’t look for ideals, look for your people and your methods. ⠀
