How to move to Canada: our story – part 8
Some inside information on how our immigration process is going. So, at the end of December 2019, we submitted all the documents. Read about this in detail here.
At the beginning of March, I couldn’t stand it and called Canada. The waiting seemed tiresome to me and I decided to find out at what stage our “business” was at.
Half an hour of grueling hanging on the line, then 5 minutes of interrogation with passion. This is a mandatory procedure to make sure that it is really me. And only then the cherished “how can I help you?”
It's good that I had a cheat sheet at hand. And I’ve already forgotten why I’m calling.
The conversation was short. What did you find out?
- That the documents were accepted and that in our profile “Everything looks good”.
You won’t believe it, but such seemingly banal words actually made me feel better. Because there were so many of these same documents that it was impossible to count, and then each one had to be translated into English. And the task was not only not to get confused ourselves, trying to demonstrate in every detail the previous 10 years of our life, but also not to confuse the officer who would evaluate all this.
- Well, the second discovery is that our case is being processed in Ottawa. And this made me a little sad, because it’s not the fastest office. The waiting time for a decision, as a rule, is no less than five months, and sometimes much longer. But we already had 70 days behind us and they flew by in an instant. In general, all that remained was to wait.
In mid-May 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, I sent an email to Canada. I asked, what's there? How is our case doing? In the hope that maybe at least someone there will poke him with a stick to see if he is viable.
The answer was sent quickly. They apologized... “They say they haven’t touched your case since February because they didn’t really work. So sit and wait, Madame Kopalina. Your documents are gathering dust in Ottawa. We will definitely inform you about the decision."
Thank you, you consoled me that at least I would be the first to know about their decision.
In short, optimism turned out to be one of the main qualities in immigration matters.
As soon as we got into a positive mood, immediately, or to be more precise, two weeks later, I accidentally noticed the profile update and sent another letter to the web form in Canada. Soon the answer came - we passed all the checks. But this is not yet a request for a passport. Canada's borders are now closed. Therefore, we continue to wait for the opening and believe in the best.
