How to move to Canada: our story – Part 2

‘Today I’m going to see Niagara Falls… The actual Niagara Falls…’ I kept turning that thought over all morning, as if to convince myself it was real. Even sitting in my Toronto hotel room, I could hardly believe I could jump in a car and reach one of the most beautiful places in the world in a couple of hours. The beginning of the story here

In 2014, I was offered to fly on a work trip to Toronto.

Apart from the famous falls, I knew very little about the country back then. But somehow, I warmed to it straight away.

The hotel was located far from the center. To get to civilization, I had to travel a long time on public transport and communicate with people in one way or another. Their kindness surprised and delighted. A bus driver once gave me and a colleague a ride for free because there was no change. Okay, he says, as new arrivals, I’ll give you a ride like this. Agree, it sounds nicer than “let’s come in large numbers here”))

It was great to read the signs in French and English at once. Or hear live speech around you in two languages. Such equality seemed rather unusual.

A young woman drove us to Niagara Falls. It turned out she had immigrated from Spain with her whole family… I remember wondering how she had found the courage to make that decision…

And then, looking at the water falling from a great height and at the bridge that connects Canada and America, I kept thinking, because someone lives here, can look at this beauty every day, communicate with pleasant people, walk the streets and read signs in French. But for some reason the thought that it could be me did not arise at all then...

And just last year we were asking ourselves the question of immigration and then it turned out that to get a passing grade in Canada you need to take two languages: English and my favorite, French.

The language that I learned, adored and taught for a conscious part of my life, now helps to realize my dream, which six years ago seemed so illusory to me.

This probably once again shows that you need to believe in yourself. And continue to do what you truly love.
