How to move to Canada: our story – Part 1

In April 2019, we started immigration to Canada.

Many people ask why? I don’t have a definite answer prepared...

Perhaps this story will help somehow understand where this decision came from.

I first visited Canada’s official website back in 2009. I had just graduated and moved to St. Petersburg. Skilled professionals were already starting to immigrate, and the official website had instructions and explanations. But making sense of it all at first glance was difficult. It was easier to decide, ‘This isn’t for me,’ and close the page for 10 years…

At the same time, the desire to change something in life visits me with enviable consistency. In the past, I worked in aviation, and when people, cities, countries are constantly changing in front of you... It drags on and then haunts you for a long time in your “earthly” life.

During two consecutive maternity leaves, I never spent a day sitting idle. I worked on various projects, taught French and took courses myself.

But these challenges weren’t enough for me, and periods of despondency still came. I began to think more often about such things as the search for purpose, personality typology, although I was never inclined towards all this metaphysics. It seemed to distract me from the thoughts that I was marking time, which were technically burying my self-esteem.

And one day my husband sent me a video from YouTube about immigration to Australia. Like, I came across it in the recommended one. And literally from the first minute of watching, such a familiar and beloved fire flared up inside me that I jumped.

In one day I watched hundreds of videos with stories from immigrants and consultants. I scoured the Internet and found my way to the Australian government website.

Until now, I had a stereotype in my head that people move abroad only if they marry a foreigner or go there to study. But finally, I broke my patterns and believed that everything is possible in this life.

And then I remembered Canada. The circle is closed. Again I went to the already familiar site, but this time everything there was intuitive to me. It's like I've grown up to this.
