Procrastination and how to deal with it

If we consider all of humanity from the perspective of procrastination, we can distinguish two categories: people actions and inaction.
I’m more in the first group. As soon as I had a list of immigration steps, I started sorting out my diploma paperwork the very next day. By the way, our story here.
The second type is more difficult. They KNOW how to achieve their goal. But every day they put off the first step, inventing ridiculous reasons for this.
The real reasons lie deeper.
- Someone needs an external force - a person who will motivate or allow them to start. As is the case with my second consultant. He “persuaded” me to take French.
Maybe this is the problem of “good children” who cannot get down to business without the permission of their elders. And the longer they wait, the weaker they become.
Try not to wait for an “adult”, but to enlist the support of equals - a partner or friend. A good idea is to find friends in chat rooms with similar interests.
- The thought that praise may not happen discourages those who are used to receiving positive reinforcement from doing something.
Here it is important to turn off your emotions and act according to the plan with a cool head.
- A poorly organized space is depressing.
Take the time to put things in their places. For example, it is important for me to know that even inside the cabinets everything is neat.
- Sometimes we spend a lot of time feeling sorry for ourselves.
Control this process and rise above. Set aside 15 minutes a day for self-flagellation or complain to a specific person who is ready to support you. But don’t write how hard it is for you in all chats - there’s no point in it.
- Personally, I rarely tell others about plans.
Saying it is like already doing it. I immediately relax, I may even become too hungry. Or I start worrying about how I will look in the eyes of others if it doesn’t work out, instead of concentrating on the main goal. In general, I’m draining my energy in the wrong place, so I prefer not to spread myself thin for the time being.
And most importantly, remember - there is no ideal time to start.
There is NOW - and this is the best moment. If your energy is on the rise, there is nothing stopping you from getting started today. But if it’s really difficult for you, perhaps you don’t have the resources – and that’s another question.
