What kind of relationship should a teacher have with students?

Do you now communicate with your teachers from your student and school days? ⠀

I do. When I come to visit my parents in Arkhangelsk, I often meet my school teachers right at the entrance - we live next to the school. ⠀

I maintain relationships with some university teachers through social networks. It’s not that we communicate every day and about everything, but sometimes it’s nice to know that there is a connecting thread. ⠀

Somehow I always worked out with teachers, I was lucky with good and wise people. I can’t remember anyone with resentment or rejection.

Why did this happen? Probably because at the university we were always treated like adults. And this was confirmed, first of all, by the trust of the department. ⠀

For example, in my 4th-5th year I announced that I would do my internship in St. Petersburg. I was already thinking about moving then, and for me it was a good option to test the waters. Then I just called the first school I came across, and they agreed. And at the university they also allowed me, although it was not entirely normal. ⠀

Later, when I kept travelling to the Northern Capital for no particular reason, people covered for me, excused my absences and turned a blind eye to things. For my part, though, I always handed everything in on time and did well in my studies. I lived up to their trust, and that mattered too. ⠀

In my 4th year, my very first French teacher was also our teaching-methods adviser. I remember her coming in and saying: ⠀

— Why don’t you still teach? It's time to start! Go and help the freshmen. ⠀

It hadn’t even occurred to us that we could already do that. It felt scary and nerve-racking. But with one sentence, she gave us both permission and a good push. I immediately found my first student, and that was the energetic start of my own teaching career. ⠀

Now I myself am trying to build relationships with students on the same principles and I see what good results this gives. ⠀

How do you remember your teachers? Who do you still communicate with? ⠀

P.S.in the photo it’s 2007 🙈, but it seems like yesterday.
