Passing the exam takes independent study
Many people think preparing on their own is ineffective. Nobody reviews their writing, and they practise their spoken answers with no one listening…

I wouldn't be so categorical.

1️⃣Your initiative will always be a good support if you study with a teacher. I am happy when students additionally search for materials on their own, study vocabulary, monitor exam topics and news in chats. Progress is growing exponentially.

2️⃣If it is not possible to take lessons, success will depend on how you plan and organize this process.
⠀
What's important:
-Have a good understanding of the assessment criteria in the oral and written parts. Let me remind you that in my telegram channel there is a link to a video about this from the organizers of the TEF exam.
-Understand what the tasks will be - know what to prepare for.
-See specific examples of tasks. There are groups on the Internet where participants publish recent stories.

3️⃣Exam topics must be worked out in advance. Don't expect to read the assignment and just start spontaneously thinking about the stated problem.

What does “work through” mean?

For example, you take the topic of inequality between men and women, or the threat of extinction of rare animals, or something else...
You need to choose interesting vocabulary, write down new words, translate, consolidate.
Be sure to read at least a few articles on these topics.
And also learn common phrases that will decorate your speech.

4️⃣Your task is not just to talk about something, but to demonstrate your level of language knowledge. Therefore, during preparation, you must definitely expand your vocabulary on the proposed topics.

5️⃣Another point - regularity. If you write texts and practice your oral response every day, your progress will become more noticeable. Thoughts are formulated faster, some expressions come automatically, etc.

Much depends on self-management and time spent searching for materials.
