How to avoid endlessly searching for the right course
Sometimes I notice something interesting. Someone messages me about French lessons, and when I look back through our conversation, I find we discussed exactly the same thing six months ago. Or I recognize a name on different immigration-related social media accounts and notice that the person keeps looking for a teacher. Not switching teachers — still searching for that very first one.
I call these “eternal seekers.” They usually have doubts and cannot understand whether they need French. For example, they passed English and now hope that the passing score will suddenly decrease and they will pass anyway. But the score in the system only increases, and their personal one decreases due to age...
And then the Government of Canada suddenly makes a gift to Francophones, increasing the points for B2 in French from 30 to 50. Imagine if seekers did not sit and put all their hopes only on the English language, they could improve their French in a year and a half and get these points!
What if tomorrow Canada even invites Francophones to come over for no reason. It sounds like a miracle, but given the love of their Government for French... who knows what will happen next. Why not make a bet on this language now, if all the circumstances lead to it.
But seekers continue to complain that there is not enough time, there is no ideal teacher, the ideal textbook cannot be obtained, and the ideal website, which will tell everything in detail about the exam and does not have to be collected bit by bit from different sources, has not yet been developed. The idea of learning French is being put off again “until better times”...
I always emphasize that French is a very good chance for immigration. And you don’t have to wait for ideal conditions, take what you have now and start working. Appetite comes with eating. Even if the teacher is not right for you, you can always find another one, having a clearer idea of what you need. Chats, if you get used to them, no longer seem like a drain of disparate information. There are also opportunities to get good textbooks.
If you really have a big dream and desire to immigrate, the effort you put into learning French will always come back to you in spades.
